The Vessel

I personally make each vessel by hand using jesmonite  therefore  each and every piece will be ever so slightly unique and there may occasionally be small marks or defects on the surface. Also the size and fit of thelids may vary slightly.

The vessels can be cleaned with warm water when the product has finished and a refill can be purchased

The Wax

The natural  wax used in the candles is created with pure, natural soybean.
Using natural wax we are  promoting the growth and care of the environment while burning crisp and clean with a gentle natural glow.

If instructions are followed correctly ‘tunnelling’ should not happen and all wax will be burned down by the end of the candle.

The first burn is the most important and the candle should burn until the wax melts all the way to the edge. Wax has a ‘memory’ and if you only allow a small pool of wax to melt, it will only burn to that diameter in the future. There may still be wax residue on one side of the vessel which is ok as long as the wax has pooled to the other side. Any wax that remains on the side of the vessel should eventually burn down.

The Wick

The wicks used for the candles are made from natural cotton fibres and are lead-free

HOW TO BURN YOUR CANDLE  CORRECTLY

Most people don't realise that there is a right way to burn a candle — and most people have no idea what that is.

Follow these guidelines and you'll get way more out of your candles every time with no wasted wax (or scent).

1. Trim the wick. Every. Single. Time.

Each time you want to burn your candle, start by trimming the wick to 0.5cm. You can use scissors, nail clippers, or our wick trimmer but no matter what you do, always trim, every single time.

Why every time? Trimmed wicks will give you a cleaner, brighter burn. Untrimmed wicks are a lot more likely to take on a strange shape that dulls and obscures the flame. Also  excessively long wicks cause nasty smoky stains that end up on your glass jar candles - not a problem with our tin candles however trimming the wick keeps the flame in control.

2. Let the wax melt all the way across.

Once your candle's lit, DON'T blow it out until the top layer of wax has melted all the way across. This might take several hours  so don't set out to burn a candle at all unless you've got the time to do so. This is also called candle memory.

Whenever you fail to achieve full melt, you're contributing to a process called tunnelling. The wick starts to sink lower and lower, like a tunnel is forming right through the center of the candle. Eventually, the tunnel will grow so deep that it'll be tough to light the wick at all. More importantly, all that unmelted wax on the sides represents hours of lovely fragrance and burn time you bought but won't ever get to utilize.
It takes patience, but if you melt the wax all the way across every time you burn, the surface of the candle will stay flat and the sides of the tin (or jar) will stay clean, all the way down until the candle is spent.

4. Keep the flame away from draught or wind.

Do your best to keep your burning candle away from open windows, fans, air conditioners or heavily trafficked areas where people walk back and forth a lot. Moving air can disturb the flame, which can also stain the jar, and can give you tunneling and other issues.

5.  Use a Snuffer to extinguish the flame.

Huiler Botanics sell ‘wick snuffer,’ in our candle care kit to safely extinguish your candle

NOW YOU CAN GET THE MOST OUR OF YOUR CANDLE

The Standard Refill is 240g and has a burn time of 60 hours.
Our candle refills are made by us from natural soy wax.

Please note that these are candle refills, designed specifically for huiler Botanics jars.  They should not be burnt as standalone candles or in other containers.

1. Once the wax in your current candle jar has been used up simply clean out your jar using warm, soapy water. Our soy  wax is water-soluble and, therefore, easy to remove. Our wick placer will be stuck to the bottom of the jar, you can simply pick this off.

2. Once clean, quickly check over your jar to ensure it doesn’t have any cracks in it.

3. Unwrap your candle refill and place it into your jar.

4. Trim your wick to 0.5cm before lighting.

5. Light your candle. We recommend lighting your candle for at least 2 hours (and no more than 4 hours) until the whole top layer of wax has liquified. This will help your candle burn more evenly the next time you light it and will help the wax mould to the jar.

 6. Sit back and enjoy as your huiler Botanics  candle fills the room with beautiful fragrance. It’s that simple.
